We meet Cole after he was stalking our opening character. He is outsmarted by her, but soon learns that she relies on distractions to get an upper hand. While the ambush works for them, Cole gets the upper hand and surprises Rebecca. Capturing her, and taking her as prisoner back to the Marauders.

***SPOILERS***

Cole is our antagonist. He represents opposition to the protagonist’s goal, which is ultimately survival. He not only wants to kill the protagonist, he really wants to kill their way of life. He is furious that a woman would be smarter than him. His fury drives him to abandon everything to enact his retribution.

Once he captures Rebecca he starts to torture her. The gang asks him to question her to learn of her shelter HQ so they can plunder it. He could not cares less about plundering, he wants to destroy all of her. Discovering she has a family, he tells her he won’t kill her until after he has killed each of them. He allows Rebecca to escape and the Marauders to fall, and stalks her to the Sanctuary where he sets her and her family up to be ambushed. His only desire is to utterly destroy Rebecca and all she cares for.

An inspiration for Cole is Kruger from Elysium. Specifically his disregard for the rules. As Kruger kills his own boss to chase down Max, Cole has this same sort of blind rage.

He kills the man who killed Rebecca’s husband because he was about to kill her. Not to save her, but so that he could be the one to kill her. Rebecca is unaware until he reveals he was the one who killed the man who killed her husband. As both gangs descend upon the Sanctuary in a bloody gang war, he kills several members of Sanctuary and traps Rebecca and her daughters. The story comes down to a bloody battle between the two. Outsmarted one final time by Rebecca, he is killed, but not before he has seriously wounded\beaten her.

The fight scene between Max and Kruger in the movie Elysium is a major influence for the he end fight scene between Rebecca and Cole .

Similarities

  • Cole will be the better fighter, and will physically dominate Rebecca

  • As the fight progresses, it becomes more and more apparent that Cole is going to win

  • Cole will taunt and play with Rebecca as Kruger did with Max

Differences

  • Max and Kruger’s fight was all action. Rebecca will ultimately outsmart Cole .

Features

  • Intelligent, he is smarter than average, able to learn and adapt very quickly.

  • Knowledgeable, while not raised in the traditional sense to be educated, he has a natural desire to understand the world around him and use that knowledge for his personal gain.

  • A hunter. Heis patient and good at hiding just outside of view. One of his best skills is stalking his prey, learning how they tick, and setting up traps.

  • Prepared, life in prison taught him it is better to be prepared than to be hopeful. After his release, he joined a gang that would later become the marauders. He does not rely on the government, but he does rely on his gang.

Flaws

  • Rapists, even before the World ended he was a registered sex offender prone to stalking women. He had spent several years in prison for rape charges. When the world ended he had no reason to control his desires.

  • Murderer, in the service of his gang, the Marauders, he has killed many survivors while pillaging their supplies.

  • Aggressive, he does not shy away from a fight, oftentimes putting himself in harm’s way to protect the ones he cares for.
